The Good Samaritan Project is inviting local veterans to share and preserve their stories at the upcoming Veteran’s Stand Down Fair in Lafayette, Indiana, WLFI reported. The organization is hosting the Veterans History Project during the event to collect firsthand accounts and memories from those who served. [1]

WLFI reported that the Veterans History Project initiative was started in 2001 by Senator Jim Banks to preserve stories, memories, and memorabilia from as many veterans as possible. Founder Paula Davis stated that veteran support is one of the core pillars of the Good Samaritan Project. [1]

The United States Congress created the national Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center in 2000. Its mandate ensures that future generations can listen directly to wartime veterans to better understand the realities of military service. [2]

The Good Samaritan Project also focuses on family and youth, community unity, health and wellness, and economic development alongside its veteran support efforts, WLFI reported. Veterans are encouraged to register to participate in the recording project. [1]
