Ethiopia is extending the reach of its National Emergency Medical Team to support other countries during disasters and disease outbreaks. Dr. Melkamu Abte, Deputy Director-General of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, announced that the team has actively participated in international disaster response operations, according to ENA English. Fana Media Corporation S.C. also reported that the country's emergency medical teams have achieved significant milestones in global health response and national preparedness. [1][2]
The international deployments highlight the nation's growing capacity to manage crisis situations effectively. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, Ethiopia has already deployed emergency medical teams for more than 15 missions and built a trained workforce of over 600 healthcare professionals. Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba previously highlighted these achievements during the WHO Emergency Medical Teams Global Meeting in Addis Ababa. [1][9]
The expansion builds upon ongoing domestic health support programs. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, the World Health Organization delivered over 71 metric tonnes of medical supplies to northern Ethiopia to assist regions including Afar, Amhara, and Tigray, collaborating alongside UNICEF and UNHCR to preserve essential local health services. [10]
By extending its specialized personnel to international missions, Ethiopia continues to strengthen its disaster response capabilities while contributing vital relief to communities experiencing emergencies beyond its borders, ENA English reported. [1]
