The United Nations launched a new insurance scheme worth up to 40 million dollars to protect funding for early disaster assistance, Insurance News BD reported on November 4. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced the coverage on November 2 in partnership with UNICEF and the World Food Programme. [1]

The initiative aims to help vulnerable people protect their homes, food, and livelihoods before cyclones, floods, and other disasters strike. The coverage was arranged by Gallagher Re, with Liberty Mutual serving as the lead insurer. The Centre for Disaster Protection provided technical assistance for the project. [1]

The financial payout triggers automatically when several major emergencies occur at the same time. This structure ensures that emergency funds remain available even during simultaneous global crises. [1]
