Emergency services launched a major search operation off Greenock on Wednesday evening after reports raised concerns about a potential person in the water. The Herald, the Greenock Telegraph, and Inverclyde Now all reported that a large emergency response took place in the area. [1][2][3]
The search operation involved the Helensburgh RNLI Lifeboat, Greenock and Largs Coastguard Rescue Teams, a Coastguard helicopter, and four vessels responding to a broadcast from HM Coastguard, the Herald reported. Emergency crews and police patrolled the shoreline from Battery Park to Cove Road. [1]
The ferry MV Argyll was diverted to assist HM Coastguard with the rescue effort, according to the Herald and the Greenock Telegraph. Ferry operator CalMac confirmed that services operated by the vessel were disrupted as a result of the diversion. [1][2]
Greenock prospered in the 18th and 19th centuries through shipbuilding, sugar refining, and engineering industries. The town was also the birthplace of engineer James Watt in 1736. [6]
