Australia and Papua New Guinea are working together to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to drought-affected communities in North Fly, located in Western Province. EMTV Online reported that the Australian Defence Force is operating a C-27J Spartan aircraft under the Defence Pacific Air Program to transport supplies to Tabubil. The mission follows an official request for support from the Papua New Guinea National Disaster Centre. [1]
According to EMTV Online, multiple flights are expected over the coming days to carry up to 10 tonnes of supplies. The cargo includes food items such as rice, flour, tinned fish, cooking oil, sugar, and tea. The aircraft is also delivering water filtration equipment to provide clean water to residents experiencing prolonged dry conditions. [1]
The distributed food and water items were procured by James Donald MP, the Open Member for North Fly, to assist local communities facing severe drought. Regional drought relief operations are continuing across the Pacific region. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, the Solomon Islands government launched a separate emergency deployment between October 18 and October 25 to send water relief to Rennell and Bellona Province.
