Russian strikes hit residential areas in Ukraine's northeastern city of Kharkiv, killing six people and damaging apartments, according to reporting from France 24, Reuters, the Kyiv Post, and Ґвара Медіа. Emergency services launched immediate rescue operations at the site to clear rubble and assist residents, Ґвара Медіа reported. [1][5][6][9]

The Kyiv Post and Ґвара Медіа both reported that 59 people were injured during the bombardment, with the Kyiv Post noting that the wounded included three children. France 24 also reported that a Russian drone struck a separate apartment building in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia. [1][6][9]

Facing ongoing invasion, Ukrainian forces targeted Russian energy infrastructure in response. According to ABC News, Ukraine's Defense Ministry stated that long-range strikes disabled 51 percent of Russia's oil refining capacity. ABC News cited the ministry as saying that recent strikes successfully hit refineries in several Russian cities, including Moscow, Yaroslavl, Ust-Luga, Perm, Saratov, and Syzran. [2]

A separate analysis reported by the Guardian showed that more than 150,000 tonnes of fuel were shipped from South Korea to Russian ports in July and August using sanctioned tankers. Meanwhile, The Conversation reported that Ukrainian authorities have verified 20,651 cases of children deported or forcibly displaced to Russia and Belarus since 2022, with 2,644 returned as of September 2026.
