Technology companies are developing software tools to integrate emergency response data as disaster costs increase across the United States, Newsweek reported. Figures from Climate Central show that the nation experienced 23 separate weather and climate disasters in 2025, with each event causing at least 1 billion dollars in damage. [1]

Total estimated losses from those high-impact events in 2025 reached 118.4 billion dollars, according to Newsweek. Climate Central has tracked 447 such billion-dollar disasters in the United States since 1980, accumulating total costs exceeding 3.3 trillion dollars when adjusted for inflation to 2026. [1]

Newsweek reported that large-scale disaster operations involve multiple government agencies and relief organizations, which frequently operate with different procedures and incompatible communication systems. Technology firms are designing platforms to aggregate data across these separate entities to improve coordination during active crises. [1]

Mary Jo Flynn-Nevins of the U.S. Council of the International Emergency Managers stated that bringing disparate information systems together addresses a persistent bottleneck in emergency response. Alongside tech innovations, local hands-on training continues globally, with Honda India Power Products training tourist boat operators in CPR and first aid, according to the Andaman Chronicle.
