A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 12 November for Millstone Flats in north Springfield, the Springfield Business Journal reported. The new development costs more than 8 million dollars and will provide 48 affordable housing units at 3299 North Vernon Avenue. [1]

According to the Springfield Business Journal, eight of the 48 apartments will be set aside specifically for young adults transitioning out of the foster care system. Cherryvale Development LLC and Good Samaritan Boys Ranch are partnering to build the complex. [1]

An apartment is a self-contained housing unit within a larger building, where housing tenure can range from public housing to private rentals. Apartment buildings originated in ancient Rome and expanded globally through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as primary urban housing. [2][3]

Debra Shantz Hart, principal of Cherryvale Development, stated that stable housing serves as the foundation for life opportunities. The project aims to give essential support to young people leaving foster care. [1]
