The United Nations Development Programme and the Government of Japan have handed over emergency equipment and training materials to Tajikistan, the United Nations Development Programme reported. The supplies were delivered to the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan to bolster rescue readiness. [1]
According to the United Nations Development Programme, the supplies will equip a training classroom at the National Training and Methodological Centre in Shahrinav District. The initiative provides interactive and practical training to help rescuers refine emergency response skills, particularly for high-risk hazards such as earthquakes. Search and rescue operations remain a core element of professional emergency management during destructive natural events. [1][5]
The handover ceremony was held under the regional project titled Strengthening the System for Region-wide Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Asia, the United Nations Development Programme stated. The ceremony brought together representatives of the Government of Tajikistan to focus on disaster preparedness across the region. Disaster management relies on collaboration between international organizations, governments, and local communities. [1][5]
As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, Japan has also funded international humanitarian initiatives elsewhere, including a pledge of 1.8 million dollars to assist displaced people in Mozambique. Japan is an island country in East Asia with terrain that is largely mountainous and heavily forested. [4][6]
