Former Footscray player Shaun Baxter has agreed to become the football development manager and senior coach for the Griffith Swans, Region Riverina reported. The 48-year-old cancer survivor will lead the community football and netball club alongside player-coach Jack Rowston. [1]

Baxter sought a return to Australian rules football by publishing a post on Facebook to offer his coaching services, according to Region Riverina. He received offers from several clubs across Australia, including teams in Cairns and Western Australia, before selecting Griffith. [1]

Region Riverina reported that Baxter chose to move to the Riverina region after taking a caravan trip with his wife. He relocated to Griffith from Rockhampton because he appreciated the local community atmosphere. [1]

Footscray is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne in Victoria. Griffith is a regional city located in the Riverina region of New South Wales that recorded a population of 20,569 at the 2021 census. [2][3]
