Eighty children from across Simcoe County will be paired with local first responders on November 21 for a fully funded shopping spree, CTV News reported. The event, titled Holiday with a Hero, matches children with local personnel including firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and CFB Borden personnel. [1]

According to CTV News, the day will begin early in the morning and feature several festive activities. Participants will take part in a festive breakfast, face painting, and cookie decorating as part of the scheduled program. [1]

CTV News reported that the shopping spree carries only one specific requirement: each child must select at least one gift for themselves. Brian Shelley, the chief executive and philanthropy officer of United Way Simcoe Muskoka, stated that the program brings clear joy to everyone involved, including volunteers and community partners. [1]

Shelley noted that multiple police officers described the initiative as one of the most rewarding days of their professional careers, CTV News reported. The program aims to make a positive impact on at least 80 children during the event. [1]
