The University of Houston has secured a three million dollar federal grant to expand its overdose response training program, InnovationMap reported. The four-year grant was awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services. It builds on eight years of existing work at the university. [1]

According to InnovationMap, the funding will support the Houston Health Department's FRONTLINES initiative. The program trains first responders located in Harris and Fort Bend counties to identify opioid overdoses and administer naloxone, a medication capable of countering overdose effects. [1]
