Officers from the National Crime Agency and Border Force intercepted 25 inflatable boats at East Midlands Airport on Friday, BBC News reported. The seized vessels were reportedly destined to be shipped to people smugglers operating across the English Channel. [1]

According to BBC News, each of the seized inflatable boats was about nine metres in length. The equipment was identified packed inside pallets on an air freight shipment that was being transported from Turkey to the Netherlands. [1]

The shipment passed through an air freight hub located at East Midlands Airport while on its route, which enabled National Crime Agency and Border Force officers to carry out the interception on Friday, BBC News reported. [1]

The National Crime Agency stated that the operation marks the first time that detection of small boat equipment has been made in air freight shipments. The agency added that this intervention was the second time a large consignment of equipment for small boats had been seized in the United Kingdom in 2026. [1]
