Coastal communities in Thailand are deploying artificial mangrove roots to combat severe shoreline erosion, Mongabay reported. The initiative is being tested in the Phra Samut Chedi district, located where the Chao Phraya River Delta empties into the Gulf of Thailand. [1][2]

According to Mongabay, the shorelines near Bangkok face extreme vulnerability to wave action and environmental displacement. Strong surges in the region claim approximately 20 meters of land each year. [1]

Mangrove forests are productive wetlands in tropical and subtropical intertidal zones where trees adapt to slow-moving water and fine sediment. Artificial roots serve as a temporary protective shield for eroding coastlines while natural ecosystems recover. [1][5]
