A new study tracking 13 astronauts shows that the human heart can adapt remarkably well to months of weightlessness, ScienceDaily reported. Researchers observed that the heart handled simulated Martian gravity without major problems when astronauts maintained regular exercise during spaceflight. The findings suggest that long-duration travel to Mars may pose fewer cardiovascular risks than scientists previously feared. [1]

The research highlights how targeted physical exercise helps the heart adjust to extreme environmental changes during space travel. Despite these heart health findings, spaceflight still presents other physiological challenges. ZME Science reported that Mars missions may continue to pose a serious threat to astronaut kidney function. [1][2]

Other space efforts continue to test human endurance for deep space exploration. autoevolution reported that a second crew of astronauts locked up by NASA for a yearlong Mars simulation will emerge on October 31. [3]

Reducing travel time remains a primary goal for space agencies aiming to shield crews from cosmic radiation. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, NASA plans to launch a nuclear-powered spacecraft named Space Reactor-1 Freedom by late 2028 to shorten travel times to Mars. [7]
