A personalised mRNA vaccine for melanoma is expected to be approved for use in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom next year, New Scientist reported. The vaccine targets the deadliest form of skin cancer by stimulating immune responses against genetic mutations that are unique to an individual patient. [1]

When used alongside standard treatment in a late-stage trial, the bespoke vaccine substantially cut the risk of cancer recurrence or death within the following two years, according to New Scientist. Alan Melcher stated that approval could happen quickly, making a decision next year reasonable. [1]

As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, an Australian-led phase three trial combined the personalised mRNA vaccine with a post-surgery immunotherapy drug. Professor Georgina Long served as the principal investigator on the trial, which significantly lowered the risk of melanoma recurrence and skin cancer-related death. [3]

Merck and Company is an American multinational pharmaceutical company based in Rahway, New Jersey, which operates as Merck Sharp and Dohme outside the United States and Canada. [2]
