Former jump jockey Bob Champion is undergoing medical treatment for cancer for a second time, the Daily Mirror reported. Champion stated that he and his medical team are on top of the condition as he receives care. [1]

Champion achieved one of horse racing's most notable comebacks when he survived advanced testicular cancer to win the 1981 Grand National on the horse Aldaniti at Aintree Racecourse. The Daily Mirror and Grokipedia both reported that he was diagnosed in July 1979 and given months to live after the disease spread to his lungs. [1][3]

He underwent multiple surgeries and intense chemotherapy before returning to professional horse racing in 1980. Over a career spanning the 1970s and early 1980s, Champion secured over 500 total victories. [1][3]

His recovery and subsequent Grand National win were adapted into the 1984 film Champions. The movie was based on the book Champion's Story, which he co-wrote with racing journalist Jonathan Powell. [1][2][3]
