NBC News reported that Republicans have reserved more than 700 million dollars in new advertising bookings for congressional races since September 1, 2026. The spending blitz comes as the party attempts to defend seats in traditionally Republican states and districts during the midterm elections. By comparison, Democrats booked more than 430 million dollars in new advertising reservations across the same House and Senate races last month, according to NBC News. [1]

NBC News reported that a super political action committee aligned with Donald Trump poured significant funds into the advertising effort. In House races, a bit less than six in ten of the new advertising dollars were spent by Republicans, according to NBC News. Democrats maintain several advantages in the midterm campaigns despite being outspent in late advertising bookings. [1]

The midterm elections are scheduled to take place on November 3, 2026, during the second presidential term of Donald Trump. All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested to decide the 120th United States Congress. Additionally, 39 state and territorial gubernatorial elections along with state attorney general races will be held on the same date. [2]

Republicans are using the unprecedented flood of late advertising spending to protect their candidates against an eroding political environment, NBC News reported. The party is testing whether massive financial injections can counter political challenges in key congressional districts ahead of the November voting. [1]
