Students at Cornell University organized a mass rally on Monday to show solidarity with a classmate identified as Jane Doe, France 24 and Reuters reported. Demonstrators gathered on campus to support the student, whose gang-rape allegations have prompted nationwide attention, and urged the Ivy League institution to implement stronger measures to prevent sexual violence. [1][5]
The student referred to as Jane Doe had previously viewed attending Cornell as her dream, according to People.com. Her lawyer stated that she has not attended the university in years and currently does not hold a degree following the incident. [4]
During related actions on campus, activists smashed windows and painted graffiti on Day Hall in support of the victim, according to The Cornell Daily Sun. [3]
In the United States legal system, names such as Jane Doe or John Doe serve as standard placeholder names when a person's true identity is unknown or intentionally withheld. Campus sexual assault remains a widely tracked issue across American higher education institutions. [7][8]
